Courses Offered MCSM students take the following mandated courses in Social Studies: • Global History & Geography 1-4 • United States History & Government 1-2 • Economics (one semester) • Participation in Government (one semester) In addition to the required courses, the department also offers to qualified students, Advanced Placement in American History and new this year Advanced Placement in European History). The department offers one elective class entitled History Through Film (one semester). Extracurricular ActivitiesStudents participate in a number of clubs and programs after school as well. Our students have taken government classes at City Hall Academy, participated in numerous weekend museum programs and guest speaker forums, organized a service learning club and carried out numerous charity events. Throughout the school year, tutorials, mock Regents exams, and writing workshops to help prepare students for thematic and DBQ essays were provided. Professional development sessions have included working on developing an interdisciplinary curriculum, sharing of best practices and techniques, and bringing back to the department a wide breath of items from outside organizations and seminars including cooperative learning strategies. |
